Note: This edition is an early printing. The books themselves are fine, but some of the dust-jackets have wear from storage.
Bringing in the Sheaves is a practical primer for families, churches, and private enterprises who wish to begin erecting effective models of Biblical charity all over the country. As such, it is not primarily theory. It is primarily practice.
• What can be done to help the homeless?
• What can be done to ease the unemployment crunch?
• How can we effectively get food to the hungry, clothes to the naked, and protection to the vulnerable?
• And how do we do these things without adding fuel to the fires of ingratitude, sloth, negligence, and irresponsibility?
Bringing in the Sheaves outlines some of the Scriptural answers to these questions, and then hammers out practical applications. But, be appraised: these are but a beginning. No single book can possibly exhaust the compassionate alternatives open to faithful followers of Christ who willingly work with the poor and afflicted.
Bringing in the Sheaves does not attempt to be a comprehensive manual; it is simply a start, an introduction, a catalyst. Neither does it attempt to answer all the questions of wealth, property, and statecraft that seem to arise naturally in Christian circles when the subject of poverty is broached. Bringing in the Sheaves is a book of action alternatives, not of philosophical theorems and treatises.
Endorsements:
"Those who wish to implement a Biblically based program of charity in a church, private association, or family should make use of the single most helpful work on the subject: George Grant's Bringing in the Sheaves: Transforming Poverty into Productivity." David Chilton, Author of Productive Christians in an Age of Guilt-Manipulators
"The problem of most so-called programs against poverty is that they promote socialism and thus spread famine and despair. Bringing in the Sheaves, by contrast, is an inspiring practical catalog of private solutions to the problem of poverty amidst American plenty." George Gilder, Author of Wealth and Poverty
"Bringing in the Sheaves is an important book for Christian understanding of the legitimate role of government. George Grant shows us the Biblical framework for charity and compassion in helping the poor. Grant's story is a must read for the real Christian." Walter E. Williams, Ph.D./John M. Olin, Distinguished Professor of Economics, George Mason University
"I believe that Bringing in the Sheaves answers questions and provides detailed instructions for Christians who have a genuine concern for the poor and needy. It is simply a book whose time has come." Dr. D. James Kennedy, Senior Minister, Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church
"From the rest of us, the poor need less talking and more doing. This emphasis makes Bringing in the Sheaves an important work. It will inspire many, especially those who take their strongest signals from the Biblical vision. It may be one of those books that makes the world a better place for a great many people." Michael Novak, Author of The Spirit of Democratic Capitalism
