Developing a Biblical Worldview

A worldview is simply the way you look at yourself and the world around you. It includes your beliefs about God, yourself, your neighbors, your family, civil government, art, music, economics, history, morality, education, business, and all other areas of life. When you ask a person's opinion about himself or something he does, you learn his views on these subjects. This type of examination could continue until every conceivable aspect of his life was examined providing you with a substantial portion of that person's worldview.

In this short ebook, Gary DeMar gives solid and clear direction for developing a truly biblical view of the world. God did not leave us to "figure it out" for ourselves, nor did He create a simplistic world devoid of gray areas. But He has given us principles--defined by His own character--that inform and guide our steps: "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path" (Psalm 119:105). Scripture is the only enduring and authoritative standard.

The Christian should evaluate all of life in terms of God’s word, not just those certain aspects of reality he considers important. Since the effects of man’s fall permeated every aspect of God’s created order, the Christian must evaluate and restore all aspects of God’s creation using Scripture as a corrective lens.

We cannot construct a reliable and comprehensive biblical worldview without God at the foundation (Matthew 7:24-27). False conceptions of reality must be “put off” while a biblical perception of reality is "put on." The belief that man himself is the center of life, capable of interpreting all the facts at his disposal, must be repudiated. Each of us must choose his God. Joshua’s exhortation to Israel is an exhortation to all nations: "And if it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD" (Joshua 24:15).

(Developing a Biblical Worldview is a chapter from Gary DeMar's much larger work, God and Government. This one-volume edition of the original 3-volume set is designed to prepare a whole new generation to take on the political and religious battles confronting Christians today.)
